Prevent Stretch Marks While You Eat

Stretch marks. As you moms out there already know, they’re very common during pregnancy and they’re not fun. While there are tons of uncontrollable factors that determine whether or not you’ll develop stretch marks (things like genetic predispositions, skin color and skin elasticity) there are a few things you can do to help prevent them too. And get this: If you really want to avoid stretch marks, you should be taking preventative measures long before you’re even pregnant!

One key to preventing stretch marks is good nutrition. I’ve been working with Lori Bregman and her Rooted for Life program for mommies-to-be, and she put me on a diet full of good fatty acids as soon as I started trying to have a baby. So even if you’re not there yet, start eating these foods now and it will lessen the chance of stretch marks when you are ready for a little one:

• fish oils
• olive oil
• coconut oil
• canola oil
• hempseed oil
• hemp seeds
• flax seed oil
• flax seeds
• sesame seeds
• pumpkin seeds
• walnuts
• sunflower seeds
• buckwheat
• almond and nut butters
• lentils
• split peas
• wheat germ
• salmon, cod
• avocados
• kale
• spinach
• collard greens
• winter squash

Do you have any tricks for preventing stretch marks?

Love, Molly

I agree with Beth. If its good for you, why not give it a shot. I know that if I don't get stretch marks if I'm hydrated. I get them when my nutrition is poor. My belly was HUGE when I was pregnant. A 9lb 3 oz baby and I'm 5 feet tall. I didn't get one stretch mark because I drank tons of water each day. In college when I gained the freshman 15, I got stretch marks because I didn't take care of myself. I know that everyone is different. Some will stay hydrated and use creams and get marks, some won't, because genetics play the ruler. But like me, some of us can control it with effort. Like I said, if it's good for you and the baby, you might as well try.

My oldest is 13, soon to be 14, and I still have stretch marks! My babies were BIG!! I have given up on getting rid of them on my own. I tried some creams back then, and they lightened up a little, but I still see them... Maybe one day I will do the laser thing. or maybe not. They remind me of giving life!! Those foods above sound excellent. Best wishes on your two little stretch stretch marks you might get Molly. Can we say envious!!!!!!!! ... lol
