Beauty...
I love to read. A good book is one of my fav things to enjoy year round, but for some reason the summertime brings out the ravenous bookworm in me. Maybe it’s because life’s craziness slows down a bit to catch a suntan?!? Not sure, but lucky for me I have a stack of great books to dig into and I wanted to share my picks that are perfect for some literary summer lovin’.
The Vacationers by Emma Straub
A two-week island vacation with their extended family exposes much more than tan lines. It’s a perfect venue to expose quirky family dysfunction and Emma Straub does a great job working her characters. A delicious summer read.
His father murdered, his mother looking to him for support, Alexi Gallo needs a job and he needs it now. Bribed into working for a corrupt family friend, there’s more to this new world than being a bag man and falling in love. Alexi is about to find out he’s a pawn in a deadly conflict between warring immortals.
After working in East Africa for 15 years, Frankie Rowley comes home to the small New Hampshire town of Pomeroy to the farmhouse where her family always summered. Arson strikes the homes around her, which quickly unwinds a community.
The Mad Woman in the Volvo by Sandra Tsing Loh
In a voice that is wry, disarming and totally candid, Sandra Tsing Loh tells the moving and laugh-out-loud tale of her roller coaster through “the change.” This is not your grandmother’s menopause story.
Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
Written under the not so secret pen name of JK Rowling, this crime novel has the goods. Rowling’s, err I mean Galbraith’s, words deftly conjure the story that plays like a film in your mind’s eye. I’m tearing through the pages and can’t wait for the recently published follow-up novel to hit my mailbox. You will be sure to enjoy the luggish, yet lovable private investigator digging through a police confirmed suicide at the behest of the dead woman’s adopted brother.
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State. Did I mention she had never hiked a day in her life??!? An against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads. Then throw in a murder to spice it all up. A brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive
A seemingly innocent friendship slowly develops into a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
I’m so so so excited to announce the winner of my curling iron obsession: The Beach Waver by my girl Sarah Potempa. And the lucky person is … Jaclyn Whalen! Stay tuned to your inbox for an email from me! Congrats!!!
