As someone who has dealt with hormonal acne (and the occasional cyst from hell) I know how frustrating breakouts can be. A zit can feel like it came out of nowhere and you are often left thinking, “where did this even come from?” You wash, you tone, you moisturize to the best of your possible ability … but you still get breakouts! Yep, we’ve all been there.
Breakouts have actually been studied to have a lot to do with what’s going on IN our body. An ancient practice rooted in Ayurveda teaching and Chinese medicine, Face Mapping, basically treats your face like a road map. Any breakout you may have can actually be pinpointed to a certain underlying issue in your body
Where have you been breaking out?
Have you been eating a lot of hard to digest foods? Junk food? Breakouts in the forehead can be linked to your liver and gallbladder. These two key organs break down toxins! If this is your issue, try to cut back on foods that are high in fat and greasy! Want to do a quick little detox? Try drinking warm water with lemon or a detox juice every morning. Want an extra boost? Add some Diatomaceous Earth. It’s earth (literally) … but the food grade version! It pulls all harsh chemicals and toxins from your body. Add a little spoonful into your juice; it’s really that easy!
Do you live in a city with major pollution? If you tend to break out on your cheeks, polluted air may be a huge factor. These allergens affect the respiratory system, which according to Face Mapping, is a direct link to your cheeks! Since not all of us can (or want to) move out of the city, using skin products with antioxidants that block that free-radical damage can help! Breakouts in this region are also linked to your cell phone. Think of all the hours you spend with your phone up against your cheek! If your phone is dirty, that bacteria can clog your pores! Always remember to wipe down your phone with anti-bacterial wipes.
Oh, that time of the month! It can come with all kinds of problems…especially acne! Most hormonal acne occurs on the chin during your cycle due to change in hormones. In the days before your cycle, pay extra attention to your skin care. Taking Evening Primrose Oil has been known to keep raging hormones at bay and help with your monthly acne (contact your doctor first, of course!)
Breakouts on your nose are linked to the heart. Have you got your blood pressure checked recently? Also, your vitamin B levels? These factors may contribute to these pesky pimples. If your nose is the problem, cut back on “bad fats” and replace with “good fats” with Omega 3 such as fish, avocado, and flax seeds.
#SupermodelSecret: Want an added skin care boost? Take a supplement! My favorite at the moment are from a brand called HUM Nutrition. Their “Cleanse To The Rescue” supplements contain a unique combination of detox herbs including red clover, milk thistle, dandelion root, and organic chlorella, which help remove toxins from the skin and body. They are also 100% natural, GMO-free, and gluten-free!
It’s pretty simple. The more you take care of your health from the inside, the more you’ll glow on the outside. So, next time a break out happens…think about what your body may be trying to tell you. It may be something as simple as sugar!
