Lipstick on the Rim: NY Cool Girl, Hannah Bronfman, On the Importance of Body Intuition and Listening to Your Mind and Gut

By Mollysims.com

When New York-native, Hannah Bronfman, became a DJ in her early 20s, she didn’t anticipate the glamorous nightlife would take such a toll on her body. When her skin and gut were hit the hardest she needed to get to the root problem and change her late night ways. This led to a wellness journey, one that she continues to practice today. Hannah is a true multi-hyphaneate in the health and wellness space. Now considered an expert, she’s the founder of HBFIT, an e-commerce marketplace and content platform offering all things health, beauty and fitness. She invests in products that better the planet and is a vocal advocate for social and racial injustice. Her superpower lies in her strong intuition and doing what feels right—in all ways. From dabbling in life-enhancing adaptogens to eating for her hormones, she fully embodies a lifestyle and attitude we all could take a cue from.

[Hannah] On Her Wellness Journey

“I started out as a DJ. There was an economic disaster when I graduated college. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. We weren’t getting jobs at corporate companies anymore. I had this talent at DJing. I wasn’t the best but I was certainly a fun one. After DJing nightclubs for about three years I transitioned to DJing for corporate events and that transition was a huge opportunity for me to own my actual life again. Five times a week was completely unsustainable. I was burnt out and you could see it all over my face. I wasn’t taking care of my self, my skin was a wreck. It started as wanting to fix my skin. I had been taking antibiotics for about a year because I had a derm that was telling me it would heal my acne—which obviously was a product of my lifestyle. I realized after a year of nothing changing in my skin and my gut obviously was getting really torn apart, I started to do a deep dive into all things holistic modalities.”

[Hannah] On Body Intuition

“To me, body intuition is really leaning into and tuning into what your body is telling you. We spend a lot of time masking what we’re feeling, masking our food cravings and movement cravings. I spent a lot of my 20s trying to get to a place of really listening to myself. We live in a society that is so obsessed with an emphasis on thinness and diet culture and pills and band-aid things to fix. I really took a different approach. I really wanted to find the root issues of my chronic fatigue. I used to have so much energy and I was exhausted all the time but knew it wasn’t depression. I knew I needed to make some lifestyle changes and really listen to myself and notice when I would eat certain things how that would make me feel. I tried all the things. I’ve eaten for my blood type. I’ve done paleo, keto, gluten-free, dairy-free. I’ve gone vegetarian and was actually vegetarian until I was 18. When I was on my journey to get pregnant, things weren’t working. What I decided I was going to do which is how I really live my life now—I feel like I’ve found it which has been so liberating and I’ve seen the most impact with is: eating for my hormones.”
