Marlien Rentmeester is a master when it comes to fashion curations. Founder of one of our favorite blogs, Le Catch, her true superpower lies in brand discoveries, pairing high and low in an effortless way. We wanted to pick her brain on all things fall fashion for everyday—you know, the wearable stuff. We’re pretty confident we covered all the bases with her: investments and what to splurge on, new denim silhouettes, the color of the season, layering tips, the It bag—and so much more. If you’re fashion-obsessed like we are (or simply just enjoy the act of getting dressed everyday) this episode is for you.
“I believe that when it comes to personal style, you have to be faithful to what you like, what looks good on you, and what makes you feel good. And I think once you figure out what makes you feel good, then you will look good. It instills that confidence in you. If something is ‘in style’ but it doesn’t make you feel good, skip it. That’s the key to looking good. It’s self-expression. If you’re feeling good, you’re looking good. Then add accents like sequins, a bag, or other statement pieces. That’s what gives you style.”
“I like what Ulla Johnson’s doing, the sort of lace inset lingerie inspired dresses, which, I find sexy and beautiful. They’re day to night pieces for sure, because it’s really all about how you style it. During the day, style it with a pair of flip flops or even throw a white button down over it so you’re not so revealing. Then at night, take it off. Throw on a tuxedo blazer over your shoulders and some heels and you’re good to go. A.L.C. also makes great dresses.”
“Red is the Fall color. And brown: brown is the new black. But red is truly the standout color in the Fall’s earthy and neutral palette. It has staying power. The Khaite show had all these red, beautiful dresses for Spring 2024. It’s sort of a Valentino red, like a lipstick red. It exudes power, boldness, and sexy femininity. It’s a way to stand out. If you don’t want to do red head to toe, you can do a red bag, red shoes, or your lips.”
