There is literally NOTHING more refreshing than a granita in the summertime. If you’ve never had a granita, think of it as shaved ice…but better. Originally from Italy, granitas are made from sugar, water, and fresh ingredients. They are only semi-frozen so the fresh juices are able to bring out more of their flavor.
The pink grapefruits right now in California are nice and ripe—the perfect fruit to make a granita out of! I also added a tablespoon of turmeric for it’s anti-inflammatory qualities and flavor. A pinch of this spice in the granita blends perfectly with the fruit!
Here’s the easy recipe that will keep you refreshed all summer long:
Ingredients:
Directions:
1. Using a blender, blend the grapefruit juice with the agave syrup, and turmeric. Pour into freezer proof container and freeze for up to 8 hours.
2. Remove container from freezer. Using a fork, scrape the surface of the frozen mixture to create crystals.
3. Serve in frosty glasses and enjoy! Serve on a hot summer day or as a dessert for your family.
