Inside STUBER’S 50th Birthday in Riveria Maya

I don’t think I will ever fully recover from my Mexi-coma from Stuber’s 50th. We threw a huge party for my husband with all of his closest friends and family. I planned this for about a year with Stefanie Cove and it was so amazing to see it come to life. It exceeded all of my expectations. I’m going to take you day by day and share what we did and where we got everything.

As a part of the invitation to Stuber’s Cincuenta, we sent out a little cheet sheet for the weekend. I think it’s so important when planning a destination party, that you give all of the details to what you’re doing so everyone is prepared. As many of you know, momma loves a theme so we had a specific theme for each night. When you have a theme, you need to make it very clear to your guests.

Thursday

Scott and I went a few days early just to have some alone time. I surprised him with a romantic dinner on top of of our room (we had a rooftop above our room). If I can say anything about this trip, it’s that the staff here were the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. All of our guests arrived at the Belmond Maroma in Riveria Maya on Thursday. So, we wanted everyone to be able to settle in but didn’t want anyone to feel any pressure and had a casual welcome reception. There was a quesadilla bar, wrap station and of course, cocktails.

Friday

By the time it was Friday morning, everyone was pretty settled in although we did have some stragglers. We were beachside for most of the day and had the best time. We had a DJ, a coconut water bar with “Stuber” straws, FunBoy and SunnyLife floats in the pool and an all-around good time. What made this day special was the small little touches that Stefanie Cove’s team and I put together. We had special match boxes around the pool, sunglasses for guests to have fun with, MollyxRM totes, and temporary tattoos with Stuber’s face on them.

Friday evening’s theme was “Embellished, Embroidered and Spanish Flare.” Everyone brought out their best dresses and we provided the men with button down shirts in case they didn’t have anything to wear for the theme. We decided to make the toasts for this evening more like a roast. There were so many a laughs but overall, it was magical.

I have to thank the resort and Stefanie Cove’s team for going above and beyond with every detail to ensure everyone was accommodated for and had fun.

Saturday

Saturday was all about the party at night. Most people slept in until noon (because they were up until 5 am, yeah we still got it) and took their time heading to the beach. A handful of people got massages, relaxed and soaked up the sun.

Then at night, we had a neon lights disco nights theme. Everyone showed up in the best metallic outfits aned we dance all night long… and yes, we had a disco ball. I have to thank Vanessa Jaimes for the gorgeous florals, archive rentals for the chairs and tables, and East six for the acrylic menus.

If there’s one thing I can say about this weekend, it’s the devil is in the details. You want to give your guests something they’re going to remember. Yes, the food is great and all… but they’re going to remember the little disco ball cups at every sitting or the Polaroid cameras we had the first night with photos of Stubers childhood. I think that’s where you should really invest your time and money. And when in doubt, throw in some tequila and a DJ and your guests will have the time of their life.
