Everyday Earth Day

I try to have Earth Day be part of my Every Day. Having a child really lit a fire in me to do more.  Especially when it came to having harsh chemicals in my cleaning products.  Not good for the environment and not good for my family!!  What is amazing is that using natural products is incredibly cost effective.  The very cornerstones of natural cleaning products are only a few bucks and you can find them at most grocery stores!

Vinegar is not just for salads!  I’ve always known vinegar was good for cleaning, but I had no idea just how versatile of a product it was until recently. Truly amazing for removing dirt, but also incredibly effective against bacteria and microorganisms.

Our good friend baking soda is not just for absorbing odors in your fridge.  This non-toxic bicarbonate is a beast for most things cleaning related, but is also a lifesaver to keep in the kitchen in case of a grease fire.   The cleaning heroes pictured above cost a combined total of five bucks!

I’ve included two DIY cleaning recipes that I use most frequently in my home.  You literally can find thousands of different variations on the web. My best advice is the same with any cleaning product: test a small patch first to make sure it works for the surface you are cleaning.  The good news is you will know that it is absolutely safe for you and your family (pets too!!)

We are a mish mosh DIY and store bought green cleaning at my house. Whatever it takes!!

Furniture Polish:

• 1 cup olive oil
• 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
• Juice from ½ Lemon
• 4 drops of your favorite essential oil

Whisk together and place in a spill proof container.  I use an old dishtowel as my applicator

Glass Cleaner:

• 1 ½ cups water
• 1 ½ cups white vinegar
• 6 drops essential oil  (Add more or less depending on your preference)

Quick Tip #1:  Label and date your products.  There is nothing worse than finding a jar of mystery goop under your sink.  I used sticky address labels.
