Beauty...
In my book, The Everyday Supermodel, the last chapter is ALL about making that sh*t happen. It is up to you to take control of your destiny. The power is completely within you!! You can’t sit on the sidelines as a spectator. You have to be willing to play. This holds true in all areas of your life, especially in your career. Want that new job, start a business, get a raise? Below are my tried and true career tips, taken directly from my book. The time to act is now. Go BIG or go home! I believe in you.
#1 When someone believes in you, believe their belief. Don’t be humble or dismiss their kindness or encouragement
Having just one person who believes in you can make all the difference in the world-Accept that person’s belief in you. It’s so powerful. It might change your life!
#2 Believe in yourself, even when no one else does
If you have to lend yourself a helping hand or be your own cheerleader-get over it and shake those pom-poms!
#3 Walk into that room knowing you have the job.
It’s an extension of believing in yourself… To this day I continue to do this. Did I always get the job? No! A lot of times I didn’t. But I always moved on and focused on the next opportunity ahead of it. The project I didn’t get didn’t matter, but the opportunity ahead did.
#4 Listen to what is within you, and don’t be afraid to take your life in your own capable hands.
I would not be where I am today if I let anyone’s singular opinion keep me down.
#5 Always be nice
It sounds simple but ALWAYS be nice. It will pay off. You will stand out. There are a lot of A-holes out there! Goodness begets goodness.
#6 Prepare, study, do your homework. Do whatever you need to do to give yourself a leg up.
I’m a big believer in that quote “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Hard work, perseverance, commitment, and dedication matter.
#7 Use criticism to your advantage
Criticism sheds a light on areas where you can improve and ultimately excel. Never allow criticism to control you. Take control of fit. Work to make the changes necessary.
#8 If you want something, when that bell goes off, and you think you can-that’s when you go for it.
Let your dreams be your fuel!
Tip #9 Surround yourself with people who are better, smarter, or wiser than you are; you learn very quickly
Don’t hang with turkeys if you want to fly with eagles!
#10 You have to do things that scare you. All the time
The second you stop doing things that terrify you is when you stop learning, growing and expanding. Taking the leap from modeling to acting was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. Big risks can have big rewards and it did for me!
P.S. DON’T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE!!!
