DIY Cellulite Busting Coffee Scrub

Ugh, cellulite! Just that word alone makes most women shudder. Here’s the hard truth though – no one is immune. Trust me, when it comes to body beauty treatments for cellulite, I’ve tried it all! When I was a model, I got occasional injections in my rear to get rid of fat. Weekly, I’d put myself through deep, painful body massages (yes, that left bruises) because I believed it would work to break up my cellulite (which it did!) What I’m saying here is that I’ve mostly done it all. From high-tech to low-tech, it’s really all comes down to what works for your body.

Since becoming a momma, I’m always looking for a natural DIY fix rather than an expensive and potentially painful treatment. Since swimsuit season has been in full swing, (and since I’m OB-sessed with scrubs) I’ve been whipping up my own DIY cellulite buster to fight this pesky body issue. The main ingredient is coffee, which is actually cellulite’s #1 enemy (and it smells great, too!) The caffeine in the coffee grounds dehydrates your fat cells, which causes them to smooth out. It also tightens and provides antioxidants to the skin when applied topically. I’m serious, people. Coffee perks up way more than just your energy in the mornings! I also add a bit of coconut oil in there for it’s moisturizing benefits.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coffee grounds
  • 6 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3 tbsp sugar

Directions:

  • Measure out all dry ingredients (coffee & sugar) and combine in cup or bowl
  • Melt coconut oil, if solid, and add to mixture
  • Mix well and transfer to your own container

TIP: I’ve been combining this scrub with my dry brush. I’ve mentioned this technique before because I’m such a fan! Two or three times a week I dry brush, head to toe, with loofa hand mitts or a “dry body brush” (you can find one at select Whole Foods Markets and beauty supply stores). Start at your feet, work upward, and always stroke toward the heart in a circular or upward motion. It leaves your skin soooo soft, hydrated, and also aids in reducing cellulite. This DIY coffee concoction+ the dry brush is an exfoliation dynamic duo!
