Be your own
kind of beautiful

DIY Lavender Perfume

It’s easy to understand the concept of “organic” or “natural” when it comes to the food we eat but what about the beauty or skincare products we are applying to our skin? The skin the largest organ in our body and the products that we apply are being absorbed. Especially when pregnant, it’s important to be conscious of the beauty products you’re using. Many products we use in our everyday lives are loaded with toxic chemicals that can trigger a slew of health problems in the long run.

Luckily, there are some amazing natural brands popping up literally everywhere. (A few include: Dr. Hauschka, Tata Harper, RMS Beauty, and Vapour Cosmetics.) Not only are these natural ingredients better for our health but also for the environment. The manufacturing of the crazy chemical based products puts those toxins into the air and water. It’s not just our skin! For any questions or recommendations, visit the Environmental Working Group’s website for safety guidelines for skincare and cosmetics. You can punch in current products you use and see how they rate on the safety scale. It’s fun and informative…and perfect for #supermommas!

I’m a huge perfume girl. I love, love, love it! When I became pregnant with Brooks, I started experimenting by making my own perfume from my favorite essential oils. Not only is it super fun to create your own signature scent but it’s also a healthier and more sustainable option.

So, what are essential oils? These oils are basically the liquid that is found within the flowers, trees, seeds that create these yummy scents. They also include protective properties that are the plant’s natural defense mechanism that work the same in our bodies. They are also used for a variety of aromatherapy benefits. There are a number of ways to mix and match these essential oils to whatever your nose and heart desires

Here’s a quick and easy recipe to get you started. It’s all about finding your signature scent and experimenting!
