Beauty...
Since I chopped my hair, I haven’t been able to throw it up in a ponytail as easy as I used to. The topknot was my go-to! It’s the epitome of effortlessly cool and completes the “model off duty” look. With my shorter locks, I still wanted a stylish option that was also practical and easy. With a bun, it’s all about keeping it low maintenance.
Introducing … the “hun” aka the half bun. This look has proven to be just as daytime cool as it is red carpet sexy. I’ve worn this bun for a lazy, messy Sunday with a boho dress and even added a little more polish for a fancy date night. I’m serious…it’s that versatile. The fact that it’s only a half bun makes it even more versatile. This style can be done with any length of hair as well as any type of hair. Thin, coarse, long, short, whatever.
FYI: If you haven’t tried celebrity hair stylist, Jen Atkin’s, new hair line, Ouai, this is a MUST-HAVE! I love, love, love it!
Here’s a step-by-step on how you can master this insanely cute up-do:
Prep your hair as normal. If you want a more polished look, I suggest keeping your hair straight and sleek. For a done/undone look, add some beach waves. I love using the Sara Potempa Beachwaver to master this look! (Check out my YouTube video on how to create perfect waves!)
Separate the top half of your hair with the bottom half with a fine-tooth comb. Secure with ponytail holder. Depending on what vibe you are going for, you can make it as precise or as messy chic as you want.
Tease or backcomb the ponytail slightly near the base of the elastic holder. It gives the hair a fuller look. After teasing, gently smooth down the pony, careful to maintain the volume.
Twist ponytail around the base just as you would do a regular ballerina bun. Secure with hairpins.
Finish by setting with a touch of finishing spray.
