Beauty...

To be honest, I dread our evening wind-down. I’m lucky if I can get my kids into bed before 8pm and I usually have to resort to iPad bribery. I’m not ashamed to say it! I’m sure all you mothers can relate: There’s no greater feeling than when your children are safe and asleep in their beds and you have a few hours of end-of-day quiet.
Now the thirty minutes before I get in bed are a different story. That’s when I thoroughly relax, reflect on my day, think about what went well, what I could have done better, and what I have to look forward to for tomorrow.
8:50 p.m.
It’s after dinner and I’ve finished off a glass or two of either Whispering Angel or a Paloma—that’s when I head into the bathroom for either a nice, relaxing bath before bed or start my evening skincare routine. I’ve struggled with melasma and hyper-pigmentation for years and I’ve discovered that the best way to treat it is at night. I swear by Biologique Recherche’s Lotion p50 1970. The stuff smells horrible but it works! I follow that up with a treatment serum, like iS Clinical’s pro-heal serum. Since I don’t have time to really focus on my skincare in the morning, this is when I really go to work.
9:00 p.m.
Brush, floss, and—heaven—slide into my pajamas. I’m a huge fan of Eberjey, Plush, and LOVE Stories. The cozier, the better.
9:03 p.m.
I check my calendar. I need to know what I’m doing the next day, so I’m not taken off guard when an alert pops up on my phone that says I need to join a meeting or a call. This goes for my kids as well. I have them all color-coded so I know where they need to be and when.
9:10 p.m.
I have a major hot chocolate addiction. It dates back to my childhood when my mother had to actually cut me off. A friend of mine introduced me to FourSigmatic’s Mushroom Cacao Mix with Reishi and I swear that it helps me get a better night’s sleep. I’ll heat up some GoodMylk almond milk and mix the powder in. It’s the best evening treat. I’ll bring my hot chocolate into bed. Yes I know—even after I brush my teeth—please don’t judge me.
Then it’s time for a show or a book. We’ve recently been really into Fauda on Netflix lately and have a hard time turning it off. Otherwise, I’ll pull out a great book. I’m extremely into murder mysteries. I can’t explain it, but I find them stimulating but still relaxing in a transporting kind of way.
One last thing: My phone is far away from me. I don’t trust myself so I usually make sure it’s in the other room. I don’t touch, look, or scroll. It’s easier said than done!
