There’s no easier way to add a little festive cheer to a holiday party look than with lipstick. Whether you’re doubling down on the bold choices with a metallic suit and the lipstick to match or you want to perk up your go-to black dress, swiping on a lipstick can be just what you need to polish off your look. Ahead, you’ll find seven lipstick ideas to steal from the celebs this holiday season — from a seriously stunning shimmering pink to classic red and even a few neutral options if you prefer to keep the touchups to a minimum.
At the Gucci Love Parade Spring/Summer 2022 Ready-To-Wear show, model Camila Morrone proved that you can never have too much sparkle. Wearing a glittering blouse and electric purple skirt, Morrone added a metallic pink lip into the mix.
Makeup artist Sam Visser was behind the statement-making lip, and while he didn’t share the exact color that he used, the Dior Rouge Dior Refillable Lipstick in Lady Dior Metallic is a pretty close match (Visser is a Dior Makeup Ambassador, after all). Clean skin, brushed-up brows, and a touch of mascara are all you need to complete the look.

We’ve seen all of our favorite ’90s trends making a comeback this year, and a rich brown lip brings some unexpected color to the holiday party circuit. To channel the original supers, copy current It girl, Irina Shayk’s recent look. Keeping the rest of her makeup minimal with flawless skin and black mascara, makeup artist Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury started with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk Intense to sculpt Shayk’s lips and add more staying power to her lipstick. For the main color, Tilbury (who is the niece of makeup brand founder Charlotte Tilbury) turned to the Matte Revolution Lipstick in So ’90s, a true nude brown with a matte finish that won’t dry out your lips.
A berry lip is the perfect pop of color for pairing with a winter white dress. Case in point, Hailey Bieber’s darker lip at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November. Makeup artist Mary Phillips was behind Bieber’s festive makeup combo, which included a matching berry blush and soft, sparkling eyeshadow.
For maximum drama, try Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Black Dahlia, a true plum in a matte finish. Or, if you prefer a softer finish, go for Armani Beauty Lip Power Long-Lasting Satin Lipstick in Tempting, a burgundy hue in a satin finish. No matter which color you choose, be sure to lightly exfoliate your lips, pat in a lip balm, and use a liner in a similar shade (like Tom Ford Lip Sculptor in Instigate) to keep your lips smooth and lock the color in place.

A ruby red lip is a staple color for every season, but there’s something extra special about a crisp red lipstick during the holidays. Actress Eiza González wore a color that complements every skin tone while attending The Fashion Awards in London last month. Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury and her eponymous makeup line were behind this lip, too, this time using the Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Kiss ‘N’ Tell with her new Limitless Lucky Lips Lipstick in Cherry Dream.
The matte finish lipstick contains hydrating ingredients like grape extract to keep lips feeling hydrated and smooth, and the cherry shade is a true red, sans any orange undertones, so it works whether your skin is ultra-fair or dark.
Model Karlie Kloss took an everyday pink lipstick and added a touch of shimmer to compliment her smoky eye. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo used Estée Lauder products on the brand’s global ambassador, with the model sharing that her shade was the Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Powerful. The cool-toned lipstick has a creamy finish that adds dimension to the lips while keeping them moisturized. But for more of a pearlescent sheen, the brand’s Pure Color Envy Hi-Lustre Light Sculpting Lipstick in Pink Parfait is a must-have.

Admittedly, going with a gloss makes touchups much easier throughout the night. Makeup artist Allan Avendano gave actress Vanessa Hudgens a gorgeous glossy nude lip, first anchoring the color in place with Dior Contour Lip Liner in Cherie and Dior Rouge Dior Refillable Lipstick in Nude Look Velvet. For a plumping, high shine finish, Avendano used the cult-favorite Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss in Beige.
If you’re not into the bold lips, take a page out of Dua Lipa’s beauty book. Throughout her meteoric rise, the singer has mastered neutral lips, from classic pink nudes to earthier tones. At Milan Fashion Week, makeup artist Lisa Eldridge mixed two shades from her True Velvet Lip Colour collection, Affair, and Fawn, to create a true nude in a finish that’s matte with just a hint of sheen. The softer lip gives you more freedom to play up your eye makeup, too, trying out winged liner or colorful smoky eyes.
