At Home Kid Activities

We got real creative here at the Stuber household! Last week we did a fun craft day for the kids and a lot of you mammas asked for me to give you the break down of our craft table. Well, Mamma Sims to the rescue.

It is important during this time to keep our kids’ minds creatively running. Put that iPad away (even though I know it is such an easy alternative to keep them busy) and replace it with some sensory activities. I know during this time it can be incredibly tough to keep kids entertained all day, however I want to make it as easy as possible for you. I put together a fun at home list of crafts for you to enjoy with your little ones. Smiles are guaranteed. 🙂

RICE BOWL:

  • Pour dry rice in a bowl and add a treasure for them to dig for.

  • We used a kid scooper but you can use a spoon or whatever you have access to!

  • We poured small letters for the kids to dig for. Some other ideas are beads, coins, etc. Have them move what they dig out of rice bowl to empty bowl and celebrate (you also dye rice with food coloring).

CLAY:

  • A fun sensory activity that kids can easily mold. We made rainbows and mermaids.

SLIME AND BUGS:

  • Pour all the slime into a tray and add some creepy crawlers! We added a magnifying glass as well – the kids loved to squish through the slime and use the magnifying glass to look at the bugs.

PAINT PENS AND CUTTING

  • Lay out paper, paint pens, and scissors. Let their imagination run, and see what they create!

TAPE MAZES AND RACE TRACKS

  • Put tape on the ground to create a giant race track, or create a maze/path for the kids to follow.

COVID SCIENCE PROJECT:

  • Get a bowl of water filled with pepper and grab a bowl filled with hand soap.

  • First the kids will place their hands into the soap bowl and then transfer their hands to the bowl of pepper.

  • Once hands are in the pepper, they will notice that the pepper will run away. (The pepper is supposed to represent germs).

FOAM PLAY AND POPSICLE STICKS:

  • Let the kids press and play with the foam to create masterpieces. We made a volcano and placed the red and yellow popsicle sticks at the top to be the fire.

GARDEN PEOPLE:

  • Gather sticks and flowers together on your next walk around the neighborhood.

  • After, have them glue the items they found to create flower people.

ICING LETTER PRACTICE:

  • Using parchment paper, lay out a long piece and tape down to a table.

  • With a pencil, write the kids names or words for kids to trace.

  • Get out the icing and let them use the icing to trace the letters.

  • After they write out the word/name with icing, they can retrace with their finger and have a little taste 🙂

CHALK ART AND PAINTERS TAPE:

  • Using painters tape, tape down a design onto the ground.

  • Let the kids color in the spaces and then lift the tape up to see the final art work.

COLORFUL NOODLE ART:

  • Separate dry pasta into different bowls.

  • Drop food coloring in each bowl and mix into dye.

  • Lay noodles out to dry. Once dry, pull out of string and have the kids make their own fun jewelry.

Below are some of the crafts we did the other day 🙂
